About Me

I am a professional writer and editor.

A cross-platform storyteller, whether that means a printed feature, web article, podcast, 140-character Tweet, sculpted topiary or interpretive dance. Whatever the framework, I publish well-reported pieces with passion and humor, in that order. I’m a Portland, Ore. native with pit-stops in Chicago and Cincinnati, and now live in Boston.

I am the Interim Editor of Writer’s Digest, a national magazine for professional and aspirational writers that has celebrated the “Writing Life” since 1920. Prior to WD, I was the Online Editor of Family Tree Magazine. I am a regular contributor to Conde Nast Traveler, and my articles have been published by The Atlantic, New York, Outside, DRAFT, Salon, MentalFloss, Atlas ObscuraPasteVICE, Playboy and more.

In Fall 2011 I earned my Master’s Degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. In 2010 I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Portland with a BA in English.

In addition to all things magazine, I enjoy dystopian fiction, biting satire and Russian imperial stouts.
